Some days fatigue told me to shorten the walk.
Some days the best decision was to move gently and allow recovery to do its work.
Walking consistently helped me rebuild, but consistency did not mean forcing myself to complete the same workout every day.
It meant creating a rhythm I can return to.
And that's what I want to help you create today.
Let me answer the question directly.
So if you have been inactive, are returning after a long break, or have recently restarted walking again, begin with
Three walking days per week.
Once three days feel comfortable and repeatable, progress to four walking days per week.
As your stamina, recovery, and confidence improve,
You can build towards five walking days per week.
That's the three four five walking plan.
Start with three, progress to four, build towards five.
Five days is not necessarily your starting point.
It's a destination you can work toward.
Federal physical activity recommendations commonly describe one hundred and fifty minutes of moderate intensity aerobic activity per week.
Which could be completed as thirty minutes five days a week.
That is an excellent long term target for many adults.
But it should not make a person who has been inactive believe they have failed because they cannot immediately walk for thirty minutes five days a week.
A recommendation is not a first week assignment.
