They tried to poo-poo data talking about this structural rotting underneath the system of uncollateralized debt and all these instruments and blah, blah, blah.
It's not unique.
But the IEA seems to have gone the route of becoming very politicized.
And the issue, and it is an issue, is that most investment firms just take the IEA's supply-demand model and they repackage it and goes out.
When Merrill Lynch hired me, which was 1984, A, Wall Street was much bigger, and B, the people publishing energy research at the time were like petroleum economists doing real supply-demand work.
They knew how refineries work.
They understood how pipelines work.
They knew what an NGL was.
They knew what a refinery processing gain was.
They actually understood supply demand.
And the thing is, of course, is we were four years into what would be a 20-year bear market.
And all those people ended up going away.
And Wall Street got smaller.
