And through how this new person respects you, you'll start to come to an understanding that this person's a different type of person than your ex or or the person that violated you.
So you need to start looking for differences between the new person and the person that hurt you.
and focus on developing a sense of how different this person is.
It can be.
And particularly now there's that hook up culture that's so normalized.
I would say for people who are survivors of sexual assault, you wanna go really slowly.
So you wanna go back to the old fashioned dating and getting to know someone over coffee first and uh I wouldn't even think about
getting sexual with someone early on in a relationship until you're really comfortable.
Uh the other thing is lots of people use alcohol to um numb their anxiety or or to calm down and it's not a great idea if you're a survivor of sexual assault or or anyone really.
Um
You wanna be fully alert and fully aware so that you can make good decisions and so that you can feel safe.
So daytime dates, keep it short, manage their expectations on texts, don't get into sexting too quickly, just pace it really slowly because you wanna see that person respect the pace that you're going at so that you can build trust.
Yeah, I think you should definitely tell them once you've built trust.
There's nothing to be ashamed of.
If you've been the victim of sexual assault, then it's not your fault.
Even if the perpetrator tries to tell you it is, it it's never your fault.
Um, and therefore it's not your dirty secret to keep.
Um, but there is a a developing intimacy that happens in any relationship and you wanna feel safe that the person that you're with knows how to respect this information that you give them, won't go talking it about
you know, the university dorm room or or whatever uh mutual friends you have.
So you wanna uh be seeing them disclose some personal things to you and and start disclosing perhaps less personal things first and see how they treat you when you disclose less sensitive information and build up to disclosing this thing that's very sensitive.
