And they have a dream for their daughter or their son, you know, that they're going to grow up and they're going to become, I don't know, astronauts or nurses or whatever.
Whatever it is, you know, but they, you know, that happened from day one.
And then as their child grows up, and certainly if they then transition, somehow all of that gets kind of blown away, that dream that the parents had.
And they feel almost that they've lost their child.
For some it will be as if the child has died.
So it can be a tough one, I'm afraid.
I mean, that's their reaction.
dream.
Yeah, well, we can educate them that actually they haven't lost, you know, they've gained, you know, they've gained a child who's far more connected with the world than actually they were before.
And probably, obviously, much, much happier.
well yeah technically i mean it depends what you mean by go back you're probably never going to go back to where you were before it depends if you've had surgery some of that surgery is irreversible so you can't do anything about that um but can you kind of socially transition back some people do it it's pretty unusual i mean i think we we've seen sort of statistics of sort of regret around gender affirmation surgeries and they are very low we don't get many people actually concerned about that you know
I've come across, I think there are a few cases where people do transition and more often than not, it's about family and social pressures rather than anything sort of medical.
So yeah, you know, what we spoke about before in terms of loss of relationships, loss of family, loss of friends, sometimes that can take its toll to the extent that a person will actually go, you know, this is too painful.
As much as I want to be the person I am, equally I cannot lose all these other relationships.
So that's probably the major driver for somebody to kind of detransition to some extent.
Well, you need some kind of intervention, let's put it that way.
I mean, but gender dysphoria, again, is kind of almost a rather technical term and a medical term.
And, you know, so there are ways of reducing that distress that's associated with sort of, you know, trying to lead your life in the wrong, you know, gender for you.
So some way or other, you need to find ways of expressing yourself.
And if you can do that and you find ways that you express yourself and that you're accepted by those around you, by your peers, by your family, yes, that is kind of the solution ultimately.
