Find to start with usually a counsellor, but also other medical services like your general practitioner.
But you need to obviously find some that are trans-friendly in one way or another or LGBTI-friendly or queer-friendly.
So that's kind of the first step.
And I think it's also really important to try and link up with other people who have similar sorts of feelings.
So finding social support groups,
you can find them on the on the the internet there are facebooks for gender diverse people um that's a good way of just kind of linking up hearing other people's stories first of all online if necessary and then starting to sort of get a sense of where perhaps you fit and what what what you want to do as well as starting to kind of get yourself educated
Okay.
Well,
I mean, you've really got to decide what actually transition means.
You know, this is a journey and it's a very individual one.
So like it's different for everybody.
i think if we look at history and we go back 50 years to the sort of early days of sort of trans medicine um you know it was very kind of it was very binary it was that was the era of the the sex change the christine yorgos and the april ashley's those sorts of people who who completely changed their sort of you know physical body had hormone therapies everything and went from one to the other
And for quite a long time I think we've had that view and a lot of people I think still see it in that way, that people transition from one gender to another.
And that requires an awful lot of kind of medical intervention.
But I think, you know, we need to sort of look at it around the sort of social contexts as well as any sort of medical and the psychological and mental health sorts of sides of things because different people present in different ways.
So there's a common term, gender dysphoria,
Charlie mentioned dysphoria and sort of spoke, you know, about the intense distress that some trans people will experience because their bodies really don't match their own sense, their internal sense of identity.
But not everybody has a really sort of like extreme or severe dysphoria.
But they equally still, perhaps like Charlie does, know that something's not quite right.
It doesn't quite fit.
