So look, I mean, when I sort of, people come to me, for example, so go and see a counsellor who's got some expertise and experience working with trans people.
to start to sort of explore some of those feelings and the ways that perhaps you can start to sort of express your own sense of identity.
And that's the first sort of kind of area of transition is what we'd call social transition.
So there's nothing medical required here.
There's nothing sort of irreversible in all of this other than perhaps sort of changing the way you look,
changing your hairstyle might be changing the clothes you wear might be actually changing the way you ask people to address you you know and what your name is for example
In some cases, yeah.
I think some people do.
They feel that, you know, they must get onto a medical pathway.
And it may well be that that's really important for them to do.
And, you know, there are doctors, there are psychologists, and there's a fairly standard set of protocols that's used in Australia.
So, and those are all sort of written up, if you like, by what's called the Australia and New Zealand Professional Association of Transgender Health, so ANZPATH, and that describes in quite detail the sorts of medical processes and the sorts of assessments that are required for people to actually start their sort of medical journey.
So, yeah, they can go and see their doctor.
In some parts of Australia, we can start hormone therapies quite early in the piece if that's what people want.
As long as they are adult and they're capable of giving that sort of medical consent and they understand.
So there's an informed consent model that's being used.
Certainly here in Victoria, I think it's being used over in New South Wales and probably even up in the Northern Territory as well.
Where, you know, after a sort of fair, you know, you still need to have mental health supports, you still need to be seeing somebody ideally, but it's a fairly streamlined sort of approach to getting people, you know, onto hormones and seeing how they're going with that.
Look, I mean, well, it can be.
It depends how you do it.
