What does it mean to them and what are the parts of it that give them that sort of validation around their identity?
Is it taking hormones?
Is it having some forms of surgery?
Is it about changing their name and their gender markers and so on?
It depends where it really fits in with their life and whether they're going to sort of like jump in at the deep end.
And some people do that.
I've worked with some people who, you know, they plan the whole thing, but they don't come out until...
you know, New Year's Day or whatever it is.
And then it's like it all happens in one big bang.
And there are other people who will just gradually change things.
They will say to their family, can you please use they, them pronouns?
You know, I'm not a she or I'm not a he, I'm a they, please use that.
Maybe they change or alter their name in ways that helps them feel that that's a better expression of who they are.
And, yeah, maybe they want to change some aspects of their sort of, you know, just the way they present themselves to their families, for example.
And that might be the first steps.
And if you've got a supportive family, it can be wonderful, you know.
It can be a breeze and it can be very affirming.
And I will and sometimes do, you know, work with families.
We work with parents.
We work with siblings and so on.
