It didn't look great.

It was slim pickings.

I left drama school.

I had an agent, which, you know, that was a big thing.

And then I just didn't get anything.

I mean, I remember I had to, I played a dead body in a British telecom training film.

And I had to audition.

I had to go and meet them.

And, you know, did somebody go and not get it?

You were too alive.

I'm sorry.

You don't see who's dead.

So I had tiny little things, but I still wanted to show off.

So that's when I started writing kind of little comedy skits for myself and character things.

And the first thing I did by myself was a show called Mother Teresa of Calcutta's Grand Farewell Tour.

And she was still alive at the time.

And it came from when I was working in restaurants, which I did for kind of eight, nine years.

When I was polishing glasses with one of those Irish gin and tea towels, you know, without the blue stripe, I would raise my head and do my Mother Teresa impression, which is funny for about, I don't know, 15 seconds.

I turned that into an hour.
