We got commissioned to do a pilot, and then we did a little summer season in 98.
And...
when you're talking about that, the moment when you go, oh, I remember there was, the shows were fine, but I remember there was show five,
in that little run of seven or eight shows.
And it was Grace Jones and a travel presenter called Judith Chambers.
They were the guests.
And that was the show when somehow everything came together and all these kind of bits that we'd been trying with the internet, with phone calls, it all kind of worked.
And we saw, ooh,
this is what this show could become.
And that did feel exciting.
That did feel like, ooh, okay.
And we got then commissioned to come back, and then we got a really long commission, and that was kind of life-changing.
Well, I think the thing I did, which I think no one quite expected me to do, was I oversaw everything in that first show.
Because I didn't want my name in the title, so I thought it was bad luck.
But they insisted that my name be in the title.
So because when I'd been hosting the Jack Doherty show, it had been called not the Jack Doherty show,
We had this idea of calling it the very Graham Norton Show.
So we ended up calling it So Graham Norton.
That's what that show's called.
And because they put my name in the title, I went, right, if this show is called So Graham Norton, everything will be So Graham Norton.
