We did the land runs where a whole bunch of white people lined up with covered wagons and ran like the Dickens to move the natives again.
And so we celebrated this Oklahoma history by dressing.
We celebrated this.
By dressing a whole bunch of fourth, fifth, sixth graders, everybody's school did it in a slightly different age group.
And we would have big competitions for how prairie-like we could get our dress.
Um, the boys were all wearing jeans and cowboy boots, and and I my mom sewed.
She my my mom was a seamstress.
She she made a lot of my clothes growing up.
My mom sewed a prairie dress with the high lace neck collar.
The apron, the whole nine yards.
And then we spray painted my little red wagon brown and we used hula hoops to make a covered wagon out of my little red pole behind wagon.
Everybody was doing this.
We had to make pale lunches with period techniques.
And then they lined us all up and they shot a starter pistol and we ran to
claim territory.
Even better.
My district took it an extra bit for some realism.
Some realism.
We're teaching fourth graders about Oklahoma history in the most revisionist way possible.
My gym coach dressed up in a very Halloween style Native American oh.
