You know, Erdogan himself is not a reliable ally either.
You go back 10 years and all the discussions about Turkey and NATO were, is Turkey about to be kicked out of NATO or about to leave?
Because Erdogan had formed this incredibly close relationship with Vladimir Putin and was buying Russian defence equipment, which is a massive problem for NATO.
Even at the start of the Ukraine invasion,
Erdogan was sort of using his veto power within the NATO alliance to prevent or to stall Sweden and Finland joining because he had personal domestic aims that he wanted.
And so I think the fact that now all the other kind of leaders and countries within NATO are looking to Erdogan
as the guy who's going to help them out and keep it all together.
I mean, I think that's just a sign of, you know, how weak NATO actually is.
The bigger question, of course, is, you know, without the US, is there a NATO at all?
Right?
It sort of looks like it's just boiled down to a European alliance at this point.
So...
Then what's really left?
Because since 1945, the US has been the guarantor of European security.
I mean, it is by far the biggest military in NATO.
Where would you see the aggression happening?
I mean, are you talking about things like Afghanistan?
Yeah.
Yeah, right.
I mean, I think I take that point.
