I didn't even know it was abuse what I was experiencing, even at 19 after all those years.

No, because there were moments where my father would just come around unannounced and bang on the glass and mum would just draw the curtains and we'd be watching TV and we'd turn up the volume so it would drown out my dad banging on the glass and hurling abuse at my mother.
