In order for that story to be true, that he broke in the car the way he said he did, first of all, you know, they're talking about him feeling the muffler, right, or the exhaust, and that it was warm, and the police go to some effort to try and prove that's not possible.
But, you know, put that to the side and say, like, yeah, that's one thing, but...
The first thing is the witnesses that saw the car there, Harry Goodwin and a couple others, they described the car as being fully locked up.
No windows down.
David Tamahiti says that one of the windows was down an inch.
Now, I guess, is it reasonable that someone might not notice a window was down?
I don't know.
I think it would
I think at that time of year, particularly too, you know, it's wet in New Zealand.
You know, you probably wouldn't leave your window down because if it rains, it's going to get wet.
And also it's a pretty isolated place.
You might think someone might break into your car.
But anyway, he sees the windows down, which, you know, is not what other witnesses say.
Then there's this unlikely situation of getting the wire and opening the car.
the police and we hear this in the episodes you know the police they try to do this they can't in the way he describes it um but he seems to uh in prison when they they get him to try this in the car he seems to make it look like he's about to achieve this but he's not given the opportunity um but you know that in itself is another thing that's
know it seems kind of unlikely but then i think the finding the spare keys in the glove box right like and again it's another thing that we're requiring that's unlikely to happen in order for his story to be true in order for that to be true well the swedes would have had to get a new set of keys cut and at the time the police searched high and low and they never found anyone that said that the swedes had come in and got a new set of keys cut um
Yes, I just thought it was interesting re-listening back to that and just sort of reminding myself, yeah, you know, never really felt comfortable with that.
And it's important to think of it now, right?
His conviction has just been quashed.
