But instead, we saw during the first Trump administration and then during the Biden administration, an increasing amount of scrutiny against these companies.
And that's what's going on right now.
You'll recall that this antitrust suit was first filed during the Trump administration.
And at that time,
The court dismissed that case, essentially saying that it was assuming too much that you and I would have assumed, you know, in the way that you and I would have assumed, you know, well, of course, they're a monopoly.
You know, there was a kind of assumption built into the way that the trust of the interest case was written that they say was was not really, you know, had a lot of legal holes.
Then along comes the Biden administration and his new FTC commissioner was Lina Khan, who was very famous for having written a bunch of law school essays arguing that new antitrust rules should be brought to bear, new antitrust cases should be brought to bear against big tech companies, including Amazon.
And so she revived it, added some new evidence and got it going again.
And that's the trial that we're suddenly on in right now.
Now,
One piece of sort of palace intrigue that's worth knowing about, you know, thinking about is that Zuckerberg actually has been, according to The New York Times, as recently as two weeks ago, meeting with Trump.
in the White House and formerly at Mar-a-Lago in various dinners, trying to lobby for Trump to basically, you know, do away with this suit.
And I think the assumption on the part of a lot of tech leaders was that the Trump administration, coming in as they are with their, you know, anti-regulatory, you know, politics and their sort of, you know, hands off of business sort of attitude,
They assumed that they would somehow go easy on these companies.
But now we suddenly have the Trump administration plowing ahead.
The new FTC commissioner is a guy named, the new FTC chairman is a guy named Andrew Ferguson.
He's a high-powered lawyer.
He's worked for a lot of high-powered Senate Republicans.
And you would think maybe that he talks about being sort of open for business and that he's a pro-business guy.
