Gina Navarrett, a Latina leader who ran for city council in District 6 and was among those who helped pave the way for Latino representation in this city.

I may have had the privilege of ultimately making history as Charlotte's first Latino Council member, but history is never.

Made by one person.

There are people like Dr.

Navaret who open doors before we ever get the opportunity to walk through them.

So tonight I honor her.

And her um her son for being uh one of those people in in the family.

I I take particular interest in this issue, uh being the council member closer to being a teenager.

uh just ten years ago.

Um and so um you know and and I and I start with that because ten years ago there were pools, there were bowling alleys, there were places for myself and my friends to go to that
