And so I don't know if that was a difficult decision for him, one or the other, because Harry Mahesh is the other assistant that was

there through the Calder Cup run.

But Jordan Smith is a guy that has other AHL experience before he arrived out in the Fraser Valley.

And now he's been promoted to the National Hockey League as well.

So, you know, can one of these guys sort of follow in the footsteps of Manny Malhotra while starting under Manny?

Only time will tell there.

But Manning's, I think, a really good indication of a guy that saw an opportunity, recognized what he wanted to do.

He saw the path forward and he has followed it perfectly to arrive at a National Hockey League head coaching job.

And there are only 32 of those for the time being until Austin or Houston or whatever joins the league.

Fair?

And I think, no, absolutely fair.

And I wrote about this at Canucks Army yesterday.

And I think this really is the point right here, right now.

And we go back to this idea of cost cutting.

Is that a factor for the Vancouver Canucks?

Because the three main guys in player development last year were Daniel and Henrik Sedin and Jason Krogh.

They have all been elevated to different roles in the organization.

The Sedin's obviously at the top of the food chain and Jason Krogh now an assistant coach.

But these were three guys that spent time before and after and during practice and working with injured players on their way back to the lineup and all of that.

And right now, none of those has been replaced in the player development department, which for a rebuilding team seems like it would be a massive hole.
