And so the only thing that's important right now to me coming into this school year is balance.
The birthday parties aren't the problem.
The sports, the school, those are not the problem.
No homework.
Somewhere over summer, the real problem is that we disappeared.
We, as in us, the mother.
You disappeared, not physically, but your priorities did.
Your workouts, your quiet mornings, reading, meal prep for you, your bedtime, your relationships with spouses or friends disappeared.
They quietly got replaced with everyone else's needs and we stopped taking care or listening to what ourselves need.
And even our marriages, they get pushed to the bottom of the list.
We're just ships passing in the night sometimes.
And we're constantly reacting instead of intentionally creating the kind of fall that we want.
That's where balance comes into this conversation.
I think balance is a word that gets tossed around a lot when we talk about motherhood.
We say we want a better work-life balance or better balance with the kids, the house, our marriage, our health, and all the things we're responsible for.
But balance isn't as simple as giving it one quick definition because it can look completely different for every mom.
The way balance is applied will be different depending on your family, your responsibilities, and the season you're in.
But the basic principle of balance is still the same.
It's very simple.
There has to be enough weight on both sides to keep you steady of whatever you're doing.
