that all matters because those logistics costs hit low-income households hardest.
A delivery surcharge is annoying if you're affluent.
And you might tip the driver a little less because you're paying all these fees, but it doesn't... Yeah.
It's prohibitive if you are living paycheck to paycheck.
So the people with the strongest reason to use delivery are the least able to absorb the extra cost.
Yeah, I mean, that's a good idea.
It's not exactly a thing, but some SNAP recipients can get discounted memberships through certain delivery services.
But there isn't some...
universally federal funded dash pass.
And even with those programs, delivery fees and markups, there's still a barrier.
Right.
And to be fair, the platforms are not completely indifferent to this.
DoorDash does have a program called Project Dash.
where it partners with food banks and charitable organizations to deliver food to food insecure households at no cost.
And since launching in 2018, they've powered more than 5 million deliveries and more than 100 million meals.
