So when the federal government briefly threatened to freeze Snap payments in late 2025, DoorDash and Instacart both stepped up with emergency fee waivers and discounts for Snap users.

They're not a structural fix.
Of course not.
And there's another issue coming fast behind this one.
If more low-income households are getting groceries through delivery apps...
then the app itself becomes part of the food environment.
So DoorDash's own data shows that lower-income consumers use the platform at similar rates to wealthier ones.
What does the algorithm show you first when you open the app?
What gets promoted on the home screen in a low-income zip code
Versus a wealthier one, you know, are the sponsored products, chips and soda or produce?
What gets discounted?
You know, is it buy one, get one free candy or is it fresh fruit?
And it's just like any other algorithm.
