Yeah, this one's a bit of a paradoxical, a bit tongue-in-cheek.
But the point of that is the rules of Wikipedia exist to serve the encyclopedia, not the other way around.
And so the rules that we do have, they're all just best practices that we've recognized over time that we just write down to sort of help people get started and to learn things.
And...
The idea of ignore all rules is, you know, it's like if rules make you nervous and depressed, just get on with it.
And in fact, it's partly guidance for what the rules should be.
The rules should be obvious.
They should be like kindergarten ethics, right?
And so if you come to Wikipedia and you've never edited before,
you already kind of know, like, oh, probably I shouldn't make stuff up randomly.
Like, we don't have to have a rule about that, right?
It is a rule, don't make stuff up, but it's kind of obvious.
And so, yeah, it's part of our traditions.
Yeah, and a bit of boldness.
One of the things we say is be bold.
If you see a way to improve the encyclopedia, go for it.
Now, obviously, given that we've been around for 25 years, there's some pretty well-established norms and practices, so being bold carries some risks.
If you start doing kind of weird stuff, people are going to go, hold on a minute, what are you doing?
But we want to hopefully maintain that spirit of saying, oh, if something's not working, we don't have to originally go, well, that's the rules, that's what we do.
We'll say, hold on, we can change the rules.
