And so people kind of have this idea that the early days of the Internet were some sort of a naive, positive paradise.

But we had trolls back then and we had people having fights over nothing.

And, you know, there was a lot of toxicity there.

So I think there's always been that strand, which is still with us today.

I certainly think Wikipedia represents it, of trolls.

that positivity and optimism.

And even around social media, where there's a lot of flack these days, some of it quite well-deserved, but also there's a lot of great stuff on social media.

People are using the internet to stay in touch with their families and you can meet people from all around the world.

So it's always been a mix.

It's still a mix.

And so, yeah, maybe we were a bit naive at points.

I mean, certainly some of the hype in the press was a bit overblown before, but I think it's also a bit overblown now about how horrible things are.

Yeah, I mean, I'm not sure, really.

It depends on what you mean by that.

Where I would go with that is certainly one of the great things about the Internet is the lack of governance.

And that means it was possible for me to start Wikipedia without asking anyone's permission.

And in fact, we barely...

I would say we barely escaped a world that would be very different.

I mean, there was a point in time when, well, in the US especially, but like America Online was huge.
