The big thing with him has been just being more aggressive.
That is leading to more strikeouts, but that is leading to more power.
There were a lot of times in his first couple of years where
He would just take hitters pitches, I guess, just out of an obligation to sort of see what the opposition had to offer and that might be the best pitch he had in his hole at bat.
Now he's willing to really take that A swing early in account, um, and and hit for some power.
And he's he's taken to DHing really well.
I know there was that sort of mini controversy in spring training where
He didn't want to DH if they got Kyle Tucker, but but he's taken to it no problem and
His ability to still play an okay corner outfield when he has to and um switch with Tucker on occasion if they want to give Tucker a half day has also been um very helpful to the Cubs.
Yeah, you you definitely don't expect Mayer to replace Bregman's production having really his best years since he finished um second in the MVP um back in I think twenty nineteen.
So yeah, I mean
You don't want mayor to think that he has to step right into Bregman's shoes and put up a nine fifty OPS.
I think what they do want is for him to be
Pretty good defensively and pretty good offensively.
Um, and for a guy with his pedigree, that shouldn't be a particularly high bar to clear.
Um, but we've seen Campbell go through a bunch of struggles in the last month or so.
So even if he starts off well, pitchers will adjust.
Um, but I think, you know, it's obviously important for the Red Sox with where they are hovering around five hundred basically all season that
They don't let the loss of Bregman demoralize them too much and
Hopefully Mayer and and Campbell can get clicking at the same time and and help to cover up some of that loss production from Bregman, who could be out for a while.
