The workload would not allow it.

And so, yeah, it's grown for us to say, yeah, it was pretty special.

Well, 10 weeks, 10 tests in 12 weeks in three countries.

Right.

Would they do that today?

No way.

Yeah.

Yeah, well, New Zealand, when I got appointed, obviously it was the first year of professionalism, and I was told in no uncertain fashion that the target for me was to win the series in South Africa.

And so I did a lot of planning, and I was very fortunate in having a great manager, Mike Banks, who was on the board of New Zealand Rugby.

And we put together a whole programme and a concept of how we would win in South Africa.

And

A lot of it was probably groundbreaking.

For instance, we asked for the two of us to go to South Africa four months before the tour to go through every hotel, go through every ground, go through transport, just understand, look at the training gear, the equipment that we'd have available to us.

So we understood what was in front of us.

Funny when you look back, I mean, today that's traditional.

Then it was out of the, and the union said to us, well, only one of us can go.

They wouldn't pay for two.

So Mike and I agreed that we'd pay for the other.

So we, so how's that for professionalism?

Yeah.
