Anne-Marie was the baby of the family.

She was born into a family with four older brothers, Kevin, Mark, Brian, and Robert Jr., and also she had an older sister named Kathleen.

In 1975, their mother actually died of lung cancer.

Anne-Marie was just nine at the time.

Her mother passed away at her home on Sunday morning in March while most of the family was at church.

Anne-Marie and her brother Kevin were the only kids home at the time.

And to keep her from seeing the body, Robert Sr.

shut her in the basement with no explanation and no light.

Grief-stricken, he forgot all about Anne-Marie for the next hour while he arranged to have her mother Kathleen's body carried away.

And by the time that he remembered that she was down there and let her out, Anne-Marie was traumatized by the whole experience.

And it seems like things in her life started going downhill from that moment.

Robert Sr.

had always been a heavy drinker and losing his wife really, really pushed him over the edge.

He would buy liquor before he'd buy groceries for the family.

Sometimes he wouldn't pay the mortgage.

And there were stretches where the family had no food in the house and no heat.

Anne-Marie would sleep at friends' houses sometimes just to be able to take a shower and just to have a meal.

So the Fahey kids really banded together.

They got really close and they raised themselves.

The older ones got part-time jobs.
