So I pretty much just enjoyed that year.

Just tried to, you know, see what New Zealand's like and just experience it.

And then I had a serious sit down with mum over Skype at the end of that year.

And she's like, right, what's happening over there?

Are you enjoying it?

How what's happening?

I was like, mum, I'm really enjoying it.

But at that moment in time, I knew what it was going to cost for me to stay in New Zealand.

And I'm like, we're not the wealthiest of families, like, you know, just an average Joe family.

family so I knew that if I wanted to stay I would have had to go study and international study cost is astronomical or especially in our eyes at that time so I was like mum I really love it here but I'm not going to put that on you because I know it costs a lot and she's like we're going to make this work obviously they had to go um get some money somewhere um

put themselves in debt a little bit.

And that's why to this day, I'm not doing what I do just for myself.

I do it for my family as well, because they offered up so much for me to be here and do what I do.

So at that point, I was like, great, I can go study.

I was like, we're going to make this work.

So my first year of studies, I joined the Institute of Sports.

And I was like, I need to work extremely hard because I need a scholarship the next year.

I can't let my mum

and dad have to put up any more money for me so I worked my butt off to try and get the best grades I think I got distinction that year and I had to work as much as I possibly could because I didn't want to ask them for any more money because they already spent too much money on me so I had to work for the money I had

I mean, I was working at Macca's on Sundays just to afford my train tickets for the week, going in and out of the hut in Wellington.
