I'm Kevin Doyle and today on the Indo Daily I'm joined by the Irish independent crime correspondent Ken Foy to explore what has led to this new hope of Liam Murray's murder being solved.

Ken Foy, you've been reporting in the last few days on the latest into the investigation of the unsolved murder of Lee Murray.

Now, I have to admit, I think I worked in the Evening Herald at the time of this, which would have covered all sorts of crime, particularly a murder in Dublin.

And this case...

I had forgotten about.

Tell me a little bit about the man himself.

He was known to Gardaí, but not for involvement in crime particularly.

It was just before the crash, really, 2009, yes.

So at that point, is it that there started to be serious threats against him?

It seems like an unusual backdrop to what ends up being a murder.

And at that stage, Ken, 2006, 2007, as best you know, how serious was he taking those threats?

It does then seem that it kind of dried up or the threats, at least, they stopped around some point in 2007 and he continued on.

Things went back to normal, essentially.

You mentioned that he got in a few barroom scraps, if you like.

In the weeks before his murder, there was one such incident which obviously came to Garda attention afterwards.

So take us back then, Ken, you mentioned St.

Patrick's Day 2009 is the day that we believe he died.

He wasn't found for a few days after that, as you say.

Throughout the day, he's in the pub socialising.

Are things normal?
