So when tests came back normal, Dee Dee didn't stop and she found new doctors and figured out some new symptoms to give them and had some new concerns.
So, small enough to be plausible and specific enough to demand attention.
And then it would grow.
And by the time Gypsy was a toddler, Dee Dee was claiming her daughter had a chromosomal disorder.
And then came the feeding difficulties.
seizures and epilepsy, Dee Dee would say to them.
Then muscular dystrophy, hearing impairment, vision problems, and eventually leukemia.
And by age eight, Gypsy's supposed medical file read like a pediatric ward's entire caseload concentrated all in one small girl who was again,
But she would even be placed in a wheelchair because Dee Dee said she couldn't walk.
And a feeding tube was inserted.
And Dee Dee said it was because she couldn't swallow.
And a breathing machine was strapped to her face each night because Dee Dee says she couldn't breathe in her sleep.
And a battery of daily medications flowed through her system, enough, one expert would later note, to level a healthy adult.
And during those early years, Gypsy actually went to school.
And briefly, she attended in Louisiana until about the second grade.
And then Dee Dee pulled her out, telling the district her daughter was just simply too sick to go to school.
And from that point on, Gypsy's entire education happened at home.
So she's just
completely isolating Gypsy from the outside world.
So nobody could see her maybe be actually okay or like take note of anything because she couldn't risk that, you know?
