And not to mention, Gypsy was given powerful drugs daily for years.
Seizure medications, breathing treatments, drugs for conditions she never had.
And medical experts would later describe this as its own form of torture.
Because when you give a healthy child medication she doesn't need, her body will respond.
And it develops side effects like dependencies, real weakness, and actual real deterioration.
And the weakness becomes proof of the illness.
So it's just all working against Gypsy.
And, you know, she doesn't know any better.
She's under the guise that her mom is taking care of her and that she actually is sick.
And she probably feels worse.
really, really bad because she's being given this medication that makes her feel like shit.
It's just horrible.
It's just this self-perpetuating system in that the sicker the treatments made her, the sicker she appeared and felt.
And the sicker she appeared, the more treatments she would receive.
And it's just this endless cycle.
So not only did Gypsy feel awful and was being given medication she didn't need and surgery she didn't need, Dee Dee also needed her to really look like she was sick.
So Dee Dee would regularly shave Gypsy's scalp.
And the explanation she gave her daughter was, you know, almost gentle.
And she would say, your cancer medicine will make your hair fall out anyway, so I better do this regardless.
But she did it because the shaved head was the single most visible symbol of Gypsy's supposed illness.
