It's always a work in progress.
But I think that you can see that from city to city,
Victims of police misconduct, folks who have lost loved ones to violent police action are working to get this done.
And this book is an invitation to stand beside them.
They need our help.
So internal affairs.
Let's talk about that.
Were they open to that?
It doesn't matter.
I mean, at the end of the day, so first of all, at the end of the day, the concept of internal affairs, imagining this for any other government agency that was wielding the power of violence, that you'd be overseeing yourself, right?
That you'd have a hospital board where the only form of serious accountability was internal.
And if lawyers, it was just the lawyers at the law firm had to police themselves.
This is a huge gap in accountability.
And we saw in New York embarrassing circumstances, embarrassing failures of accountability.
And I know the NYPD credits itself as great on accountability.
I would ask the federal monitor about that.
I would ask the record on stop and frisk.
I would ask the many scandals that have happened most recently.
uh and ask yourself is that what we want we don't have to have that there are professional investigators who are excellent at investigating police misconduct and they need to be part of the conversation and this is about democratic will don is is can we can we demand these specific asks as opposed to the broader calls for action
Absolutely.
