Although across the country, there have been efforts to phase this that have been successful in part, and it's come very close in some cities.
What I would say is that it doesn't matter from an ideas perspective, like we must demand this as citizens.
But at the same time, the police department isn't an entity unto itself.
It's responsive to political actors.
And these are demands that must be made to city council folks.
That's the only way to get it done.
City councils, mayors, city administrators, city managers, they need to get the pressure and to understand that this needs to change.
Black people are treated worse by the police in America and treated more harshly.
And there's studies to back this.
And there's, as you well know, a million anecdotes to follow that.
We've met with those victims.
We've met with the people struggling with that.
It's devastating.
And what we saw in New York is if you go to Brownsville, you go to East New York, you go to the South Bronx, it's a totally different universe to be a
a poor black person in one of those communities is to be in peril.
And the constant fear and pressure and anxiety, we understand as white guys, we're going to have a limited perspective on that.
But we really, we spent a lot of time absorbing those stories.
And it certainly shapes how we approach our work.
I think we get some limited perspective on that in New York City by its very nature.
But it's gonna be more severe in poor black neighborhoods.
