You know, the guy that stole from Target or the guy that drank and drove, those guys –

They did it.

There's no question about it.

So that's just mitigating loss.

But if somebody comes in and says, I didn't do this murder.

I've been charged with it.

My job is not to judge what's against them.

My job is to say, okay, you're telling me you didn't do it.

So very similar to this client that I'm telling you about that didn't take the deal.

I had to take him at his word as his lawyer that he didn't do it.

He never admitted to me that he did it to this day.

On the other side of the coin, I knew that the evidence was way, way, way stronger than him saying he didn't do it.

And he didn't want to hear that.

He didn't want to hear the fact that the evidence was going to bury him.

But my job is to balance that, to say, okay, I'm not saying that you did it.

And, you know, there's ways to get around that if you choose to.

So in the case where if he would have taken the plea, he would have done it as an Alford plea.
