They have some great local programs in our court systems, which really work.

We have a veterans court system.

The veterans court, if you're a former vet, you have that as an option.

So you get charged with something, you go into the veterans court system, they assign you a counselor that you talk to every week, because these people are fucked up from being in war or being PTSD and all those things, which are legit, and they're drinking or drugging, and as a result of that, having all these other issues.

Um, and then they have assigned a counselor, they have a, uh, a therapist and those people make sure that they follow through on their meetings and do everything there.

And the rates of, of return, repeat offenders go down so much as a result of that, that these programs work.

Same thing with, uh, uh, alcohol and drug offenses, that if you can get them into these programs and there's a lot of criteria they have to meet where they live, what their age is, what their, uh,

all the demographics and how, but the people that get changed, those are the ones that get changed.

Not the guy that they lock up for 30 days, 60 days.

In Maryland, where I work,

If you get less than 18 months, it's a local jail sentence versus going to the penitentiary.

And you know as well as I do, if you're going to the pen, you're going to come out a better criminal and more fucked up than you were if you go to a local jail is what it comes down to.

No, jail is still something they see the end in sight.

And they usually say you get an 18 month sentence.

You're going to be out in 13 of those 18 months.

So just over a year.

And it can be a reset.

But I don't think it lowers the rates in that much because they figured out other ways to beat the system is what it comes down to.

Once they go off into the penitentiary system and the prison system, it's a whole different ballgame.

And obviously it's very different from when you talk to people that have been on the show that have done local state time versus have done federal time.
