And as the summer went on, it felt like he was missing everything.

He'd get to go and sit outside maybe for half an hour, but he'd have to go in again and he was just so sick.

So again, he was hospitalised and it was coming up to my birthday then at the end of May.

And he was planning a party for me, which I was not that keen about, but he had a spreadsheet and everything.

And once James had a spreadsheet, it was happening.

so he was sent into hospital again just from being so unwell but insisted he was getting out for my birthday on the 31st and he came out of hospital the night before that and he had everybody lined up to do this that and the other all their jobs my brother Martin was on the barbecue because James trusted him and just everyone had their little role to play and he sat there and got through the party and it was very surreal to be partying in the middle of this most stressful time of our lives but it was really important to him to celebrate that

I've learned a lot from him, I think, in terms of celebrating things.

And he always wanted to celebrate the small wins and big things like birthdays as well.

You might not feel like it, but it is important because, you know, life is worth celebrating.

Yeah.

So after your birthday then?

After that, he was just, again, we were trying to feed him small bits of this, that and the other, very kind of low fat diet, mostly soft foods, liquids almost.

He was on all those milkshakes and things that people get, you know.

He had lost about 15 kilos from his normal weight.

Yeah.

And just looked terribly unwell, really.

And as the time went on,
