I walked into the hospice and they showed me to his room and the patio doors were open and the sun was just streaming in on him and I could see the flowers outside the door.

It was chalk and cheese compared to the stuffy room we had had in St.

Vincent's.

The care was great there, but the place was so stuffy.

So getting to the hospice just felt like a breath of fresh air and they were so welcoming to me.

They got me a cup of tea straight away and the way that they spoke to James was incredibly respectful.

He was out of it, but they were saying to him, James, I'm going to just have a chat with Marian here.

We're just going to be talking about your care, but if there's anything you want to say or you don't want me to say, let me know.

And he woke up a tiny bit when I got there and he told me that he had been for a walk around the grounds.

And I thought, where are you?

He was lying in bed like a corpse nearly.

and then the nurse told me that yeah she had brought him for a walk when he got there she brought him for a walk outside and inside the hospice to see what it was like that just wouldn't have happened they cared that he wanted to see the place that just would not have happened in any other setting so it was lovely it felt like magic to get there and i was staying with him so they got me a lovely bed for the room and they told us that we can put up any kind of decorations that we want in the room put up photos anything so we

Having got a photo shoot done very early on in his illness, I brought in this massive canvas that we have of us all as a family.

And the kids came in and they started doing pictures.

There's an art room at the hospice.

So they did loads of pictures, paintings, everything, stuck them on the walls.

Friends brought in just any photos that reminded them of James and the place looked like a home from home really.

It was lovely.
