And from where it's very curious downtown in Manhattan, because I couldn't see the towers, even though I was at that stage less than half a mile from them, I couldn't see them because the sky, New York, lower downtown is full of very narrow streets.
And big buildings.
So a lot of the twin towers are obscured.
And then you kind of it opens up and you just happen upon them.
So at first, all I could see were people moving very, very quickly towards me.
I could hear sirens, sirens.
There were, you could see ambulances, trucks, police cars.
There was just this massive surge of all kinds of uh cars and vehicles with flashing lights heading in the direction of the towers.
And then you could see people.
Coming towards me.
I could see a lot of people coming towards me and they looked distraught and distressed, but it wasn't a massive surge at that stage.
And one of the things I remember quite curiously when I went on to Broadway is there's a lot of little um coffee stalls around there where you buy pretzels and coffee in the morning.
And people were stopping and they were listening to because they all had these crackly little radios.
And instead of rushing away, because nobody thought the towers were going to come down and they were out of the immediate.
It's zone of danger.
So people were stopping to listen to what had happened.
What was it?
You know, everybody was shocked and and really upset.
But but there wasn't this sense of that something worse was going to happen again.
And then literally, I had come around then onto Fulton Street and Broadway, and then I could suddenly see the towers.
