And so I acted as though I was just dealing with

you know, a couple of disconnected symptoms, not a system wide problem.

And it took me traveling to Greece to teach a writing retreat in the summer of 2024.

And I was walking around the hotel where their retreat was.

And I couldn't breathe.

And I've never in my life experienced any issues with my lungs, never had any asthma, anything like that.

I ended up being rushed to a pulmonologist over there.

My larynx was over 70% blocked.

And it turned out I had severe asthma in both of my lungs.

And I got on a plane home the very next day.

And that's when I was like, you know, denying your reality does not help.

Like you need to name it.

You need to own it.

You need to say that it's true and that it's real.

And that's the only way you're going to get better.

But it was it was process.

And I also want to add, this is in the period where I was pretending like this wasn't happening.

Got it.

I just... Honestly, I just completely lost control of my mind and lost my intelligence, which is... It's like a common neurological side effect of long COVID.

They call it brain fog.
