You know, hardcore beliefs are very hard to change.
And one of the ways that I go about it, I mean, you communicate for a living, is trying to explain to people the importance of what we have that's come to us from nature.
For example, beta blockers were basically built, designed on the chemical structure of the psilocybin mushroom.
It's a multi-billion dollar industry that Albert Hoffman started with Viskin, the first beta blocker.
I have never met a physician ever who knew that beta blockers originated from those magic mushrooms.
Ace inhibitors, billion dollar drug based on venom from a Brazilian snake.
Never met a physician who knew that.
Again, a billion-dollar drug.
Now, the sad part of this tale is the Brazilians and the Mexicans never got a nickel of that, so that's not acceptable.
But these are powerful arguments because everybody my age is either taking ACE inhibitors or beta blockers or both.
But to let these people know how much longer and better you're living because of these drugs that come to us from nature, in this case, tropical nature, and we need to convey that better than we're obviously doing.
Well, the Amazon Conservation Team, which I'm the co-founder and the president of, has been described as the greatest rainforest conservation organization that nobody's ever heard of.
It's because we put all of our money into the field rather than direct mail.
Yuck.
