I think you're quite enlightened to not do that.
I love that, and it's reminding me of a story.
So I was reached out to by a guy named Scott, and he was a Harvard-trained lawyer, was a Rhodes Scholar, super gifted and high achiever.
And he received a diagnosis of long COVID, which just totally upended his life.
And he was unable to perform his duties as a lawyer.
He's a human rights lawyer.
And he listened to my TED Talk where I talked about this distinction between your why versus your what.
And he said that it made him reflect on the fact that
When he asked himself what his why was, it was helping to give a voice to the underrepresented.
That's why he was a human rights lawyer.
He really cared about giving them a voice and making sure that they had representation.
But because he couldn't do that, because he experienced so much brain fog and so much fatigue that he couldn't keep his day job, he asked himself what that why would look like in his new highly constrained world.
And that manifested in the form of being an advocate for fellow long haulers.
And so now he's on this crusade to fight for resources, to build community for fellow long haulers, to advocate for those who are suffering as a result of some historical COVID infection.
And I thought this was such a beautiful expression of this goal, this idea, because he translated something.
A lot of people in his shoes might have just thought, okay, well, life is over and there's so little that I can do.
There's no way that I can find meaning and purpose in this new environment.
And I just love that Scott has persisted.
