I love hosting a slight change of plans.
What a joy from the closet in my home
to be able to connect with people all over the world about their life stories.
And the list just flowed out of me.
And I swear to God, something magical happened in that moment.
As I did this exercise, all of a sudden, the aperture of my camera lens changed, and it zoomed out.
And I saw that I had been so single-mindedly focused on this goal of becoming a parent that I had completely lost sight of the richness of my life outside of that space.
And when I zoomed out, I thought, oh, my God, there's so much that still makes this life beautiful and this life worth living with joy.
And did I go to bed happy that night?
Of course not.
I was still grief stricken.
But did I go to bed feeling more intact, more full to your earliest question in this conversation?
Absolutely.
I no longer felt like the universe had robbed me of the most important or like, no, how do I say this?
I no longer felt like the universe had robbed me of everything, which is how I had emotionally felt before doing this exercise.
So again, I would encourage everyone, if you just have five minutes, take out your phone, go to your notes app, just jot down things that bring your life meaning and value and keep referencing that list when life is throwing you these curve balls.
And again, you'll find that it helps breed stability and a more resilient, bigger, more expansive identity.
Yeah, you don't have to do it often.
I mean, I think the thing about our self identities and our values is that
at least in the short term, they tend to stay relatively stable, right?
