I'll never forget.

It was 7.45 a.m.

on a Sunday morning in Houston from my news director and said, get in a car and get to Waco.

There's been a shootout with federal agents at a compound there.

So it took me about three hours to get to Waco.

I got there.

And that's when it all started and all unfolded.

And little did we know we'd be there for 51 days.

And it was pretty insane.

I actually was one of the first people to actually interview Koresh during the standoff.

I was real close with an attorney at the time out of Houston named Dick DeGaran.

And Dick and I played golf together.

And Dick was actually representing David Koresh at the time.

So he was able to get Koresh on the phone with me to do an interview during the early days.

No, I was on the phone about a mile and a half away from the compound.

They wouldn't let any of us get there because obviously it was surrounded by all the federal agents who were trying to move in and get this thing taken care of.

Little did we know we'd be there for 51 days.

And I was on the air actually the final day of when the raid went down.

We had an RV set up with what we called Satellite City with hundreds of other media from around the world.

And I was actually on the top of an RV in a lawn chair.
