And I was doing a report at 12 noon Central Time, which was 1 o'clock, with a man, an anchor out of New York, CBS radio named Frank Setapani.
And Frank was interviewing me about what was going on.
And we were explaining how early in the morning they went in with tear gas and there was some fighting going on.
And then he asked me if I saw the flames.
And I hadn't at the time because of where I was on the other side of the building.
And all of a sudden, within 30 seconds, there was this inferno in front of us.
And I stayed live in the air for about 45 minutes during that, explaining the situation of what was going on and what we could see from the top of the RV through our binoculars.
And it was a pretty crazy scene.
It's pretty wild.
Could you feel the heat?
You could smell the smoke.
You could see people running out of the compound.
You could see federal agents approaching, trying to get people out of the fire.
You also knew that there were 80-some-odd people that were in this building that you knew there was probably no way that they were going to be able to get out.
Oh, my God.
And trying to compartmentalize all that into a radio report and have no pictures to tell that story.
And you have to tell the story.
For the listeners, you know, in a sick sort of way, it was pretty cool to be able to have that opportunity to do that.
But you also knew that there were parents and there were kids inside of this situation.
It was a pretty bad scene.
