Tim raised his hands in compliance to either side of his head.
Yet curiously, just as he turned to face his assailants and naturally to comply with their orders, which he reasoned had to be some variation of give me your shit, was surprised to see the sidewalk behind him empty.
It had happened too quickly for him to see, but in a split second, the two bandits who had sought to rob him of the whopping next to nothing he carried suddenly ceased to be.
In one moment they were there, or any who might be looking to see, and the next, before Tim could turn to lay eyes upon them, they were gone.
Tim glanced around, genuinely baffled and wondering for a split second if this was not some kind of prank.
But despite his best efforts, no bandits of the like could be found.
It was then that he decided that perhaps...
It might be a good idea to head back, get some sleep, and get ready for the following day's departure.
If he was really lucky, perhaps Kenny and Amanda might have finished their coital embraces, allowing for an easy sleep.
In either case, he knew it was time to go.
The walk back to the house was uneventful.
Tim repeatedly sought to check the time on his wrist, but each time was presented with a sad reminder that the watch was lost.
It had been such a standard piece upon his person, so much so that he was even used to seeing the tan lines and sometimes indents upon his skin from his regular wearing of it.
However, now his wrist felt empty, light, and strangely enough possessed neither the long-term indents nor discolorations he had expected, as though it had never existed at all.
Another sigh escaped him on the third or fourth time checking the phantom timepiece.
Instead, pulling out his phone, he saw that he was well within curfew still, and so continued a winding route of half-memory and half-periodic checking his GPS until finally he arrived.
Slipping into the darkened Airbnb, he crept to the room he was set to share with CJ and Dan, only to find it thankfully uninhabited.
Climbing into his own bed, he hoped silently that neither of his roommates this night would wake him just before falling asleep again.
He slept a deep and dreamless sleep.
It was as though he were touching the void once again.
