When hormones and neurotransmitters are being released, our body wants to and does metabolize them and they go away.
But...
Very few of us have that experience.
Again, why?
Because we begin to tell ourself a story about what is happening, right?
We keep it alive in our mind and then we keep it alive in our body.
And I want to just quickly make sure we're distinguishing what we're talking about here.
Awareness being with, right?
Allowing the anger to be present.
Oh, I'm angry, right?
And maybe the context of being on a tennis court.
And for all of the reasons right now, I'm dysregulated, throwing a racket.
My game might be impacted.
Then fans might think something about me, right?
So contextually, right?
The anger, though, was still there.
Because I want to contrast this from...
Again, a very beautiful survival-based adaptation where there's a more general sense of shutdown in our nervous system.
Again, oftentimes in a childhood, it is our best attempt to reduce consistently overwhelming experiences that then translates to a general sense of overall shutdown.
