And it's completely different from each other in regards to the kind of religious conflict, but it's there nonetheless.
What does it do to the lexicon of a child to understand what militarized presence is, to understand what a curfew is, to understand what a bomb scare is?
And Kashmir had the same issue.
There was this constant presence of threat.

It was like walking a tightrope.
Any second, violence could erupt.
And you become so aware of that when you're a child.
And when you do...
You can't help but become empathetic because you have to be so aware of your surroundings, every room you're in, the moods your parents are in.

You know, when we moved to Delhi, Delhi schools, when I was a teenager, quite often used to get a bomb scare called in.
So I went to the British school in New Delhi.
And I think at least about six or seven times over the course of those four years, there was a bomb scare called in.
Now, it could have been just a kid pranking, so we all got to go home early.
It's nice to think of it that way.
