That used to be the game.
It used to be serve and volley.
Everybody would come to the net.
Why?
Well, because first of all, there were wood rackets, so you couldn't hit the ball as hard.
Second of all, the bounce was more unpredictable.
So the more times you let the ball bounce, the more chances you would get a bad bounce.
Now that rarely happens.
So you combine all those things.
So now that's why you see essentially the same players winning at Wimbledon that win on other surfaces.
So in some ways,
It's made it more predictable, which in a way is, you know, maybe not great because, you know, you don't have any experts.
But in the long run, you know, that's why Federer, Djokovic basically have, you know, dominated Wimbledon for so many years.
And now you've got two guys in center and outgrads on the men's side.
It's still a little more wide open on the women's, but it's not as specific to being just a great grass court player.
Well, yeah, so guys like Carlos Costa, Carlos Moya, who was then Nadal's coach, Beresetegui, I could go through a list of guys, Albert Costa, were all great clay court players.
Those were the guys that were complaining and not coming.
And then when they changed it, most of those players came back because they had at least a chance to win a few rounds.
Nadal, to me, one of the all-time great efforts by him was that he won two Wimbledons because he lost in the first week of Wimbledon twice.
More so than any of those three all time greats at any other tournament, because the grass was still much, much more difficult for him.
