The reason I think that basically how this looks for most of the people, it's not even just game dev, but game dev, game dev, game dev, it's also like a very big victim of that is because
No one teaches you how to manage your career in general.
And again, you can call it however you want.
It's an exit job or whatever.
But let's focus on the career management from this perspective.
So what usually happens is
You just entered the industry or you want to enter the industry, which is hard nowadays, way harder than it was a couple of years ago, for example.
But you somehow entered the industry, right?
You got a gig or you got yourself a first project.
You are working somewhere.
And then you kind of feel after a couple of years that you want to move forward and you want to move somewhere else.
And then you stumble upon WoW because suddenly, especially for the indie developers that are wearing many hats in the studios, suddenly you have a problem to write up everything that you've done.
And when you're writing up everything that you've done, you kind of feel off a little bit because it's not a game designer, it's not a producer, it's not a narrative designer.
It's kind of a mix of everything because very often this is how it works in the studio, like in a smaller studio.
So what you do is you prepare the document that it's basically, again, kind of a Frankenstein when it comes to the skill set, and you try your best with this.
But the main issue is nobody tells you at the beginning of your journey that your job is not a copy paste job in any other studio, probably, like in a very, very good chance, because there are people in different studios who are doing even if similar gigs, there are different jobs that they are doing.
So my point here is, because nobody teaches you that, it's harder and harder for you later on to actually understand even and sit down and work through with yourself what do you want to do, how to signal this stuff to the world again.
And I will be using word signal a lot, but this is what it boils down to.
it's very easy to get discouraged and then sit in the company just because you're kind of stuck in a place and you don't really know what to do how to do it in which direction to go to you send couple of cvs you tried you did not like it did not move forward really like you didn't move forward really because even if you landed the conversation then they said okay we went with someone else we did not get any feedback so you really don't know how you performed why you performed this way
and basically there is a lot of this problem of lack of information on every step of this process because
