But almost never you want someone who can do everything.
You want people who can do very specific tasks and solve very specific problems that you have.
And those problems very often are not
Just because you are wearing many hats doesn't mean that those hat fits.
And the point is that somewhere along the line and somewhere along the way, even in our example, the narrative designer, she confused I'm doing this with I want this.
And those are very often two separate things.
And just because you are doing part of the duties because somebody gave them to you doesn't mean that this is your you can even like them a little bit or don't mind doing them.
But technically you would like to focus on other stuff that makes you more energized, like brings you like brings the best of you in those specific tasks.
so that's number one thing so first what you need to do is just because you are doing this doesn't mean that you want this and you have to separate those two things and when you are clear on this stuff then it's a little bit easier to actually understand in which direction you would like to go and what you do from the perspective of just being in the job search process is that if you know again that you would like to be for example narrative designer
Let's stick with this example or a writer.
But you also have a lot of producer production like experience.
This is still a useful experience.
But the problem is that if you write at the top of your CV that you are narrative designer slash producer slash writer slash whatever else, that immediately dilutes the entire information because it's like, first of all, it already creates doubt about how much of all of those stuff you've actually done.
because if they were equal then you've been 25 percent narrative designer 25 producer 25 someone else which like not ideal if you are looking for 100 percent narrative designer here so all of this experience and stuff that you've mentioned is still relevant but the problem is that you have to position it as something that is also relevant to the job that you're applying for
And this is where a lot of people get this stuff wrong because they just go with I've done this, I've done this, I've done this, I've done this, I've done this.
So basically what a lot of people are doing when they are applying is that they are reversing the job description.
And everybody hates how the job descriptions are written because they are just list of requirements and everybody complains about it.
we do it the same like we do exactly the same for the other side like we just list and we just have a list of stuff that we are we were doing and hope that somebody will understand that this is a fit which is entirely how to write it is entirely different point but uh to keep this in track so
If you want to go, for example, for a certain position and you've been doing only 50% of the duties within the studio, that's okay.
But you still highlight just this one position and everything that was in the other 50% will be somehow included in the signal that you are broadcasting to the world.
