All right, well, let's start at a definition of what a witch was back then.
They thought that they were basically making deals with the devil and they were like a poison on society and they were kind of like in cahoots with Satan.
And remember, like at this time, Christianity was like the main religion.
It was very much like anti that.
And so people thought witches were doing things like maiming pregnant women.
They thought they were like killing children.
They were even saying that witches were stealing like men's genitals and making them impotent.
So there's like little drawings of like witches like collecting dicks and like putting them on trees.
It's like super crazy.
So witches were generally considered like super, super evil and like a scourge on society.
And therefore, during those 15th, 16th and 17th centuries in Europe, witchcraft was a crime and the punishments were brutal.
So you could be imprisoned.
