But I've been doing a pretty good job, you know, I'm good.
So whatever I'm doing, you know, seems to be working and I'm grateful for that.
I was thinking about that a couple of days ago because I'm just reflecting on how fortunate I am to have come as far as I have from that moment.
But I can tell you exactly when it was.
It was the first weekend of August in 2003 when I experienced my first hemiplegic migraine, the kind of migraine that mimics a stroke.
So I was living and working in Philadelphia.
I'm lying in the bed.
And I remember I had this feeling like we used to say when I was a child, you know, from inactivity, you say like my leg feels dizzy when you would feel the tingling from the circulation.
So it was that kind of feeling, except that it didn't stop.
So it went from my foot, it's going up my leg to before I knew it, my entire left side of my body was tingly and then becoming numb.
I went to the emergency room.
Even though I didn't have a stroke after they did the test or whatever, I left with the feeling that something had happened to me.
That's how I felt.
So they ruled out stroke.
They ruled out it was a heart attack.
I had the EKG, EEG and all of that.
And as they had me on IV fluids, the attendant comes back in and he said, uh, something you said struck me when I was going over your history.
He said, I'm not a neurologist, but I've heard my neurological colleagues talk about a kind of migraine that mimics stroke like symptoms.
He said, so I'm going to give you a referral to our neurology clinic.
So I made an appointment and the neurologist, they told me, he said,
