For the entire community, that an event that should be associated with sporting success and celebration became associated with tragedy and the loss of a much-loved member of the community.

And she said it was a tragedy not just for, you know, for the Daly and O'Reilly families, but for everyone in Donerail and the lasting impact that it would have.

And she also commented on the type of person that Barry Daly was.

Now the judge did agree to backdate that sentence to when he was first taken into custody, but it's slightly different for the other two defendants.

Now, I suppose dealing with them in order, the seventeen year old had denied Mr.

Daly's murder, but had, like Alex Deedy, had offered a

Plea to manslaughter.

This plea was not accepted to the state.

And the 17-year-old following a retrial was convicted of Mr.

Daly's murder.

However, because of his age, it is not mandatory for a court to impose a life sentence, even though there is a murder conviction.

Other factors such as age and things like that can be taken into account.

Commissions on that part were made before Miss Justice Shabon Lankford.

And she said that given the vast number of reports that she wants to consider, she's taking some time before she rules on sentencing.

So the 17-year-old will discover what sentence he's going to receive for Mr.

Daly's murder on September the 11th, next, before the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork.
